Work of the Chapter:
Introduce Muslims and non-Muslims to the beautiful and peaceful side of Islam.
The word “Islam” is derived from the Arabic root “salaam,” therefore, the literal meaning of the word "Islam" is "peace." This signifies that one can achieve real peace of body and mind through submission and obedience to Allah. Such a life of obedience brings peace of the heart and establishes real peace in society at large.
Peace is an important aspect of Islam, and Muslims are encouraged to strive for peace and peaceful solutions to all problems. In Islam, peace is the general rule or norm, and war is only an exception. Of the various names or attributes of God mentioned in the Quran, one is As-Salam, or ‘The Source of Peace’. That is to say, God is Peace. Islam’s mission centers on tawhid, the oneness of God. The Quran and the Prophet’s life aim to transform people’s minds and hearts so that they love just the one God, fear Him alone and make Him their greatest concern. This is the beginning of the Islamic mission as well as its finale.
